Last updated: October 26th, 2022

Serving snacks to our guests and giving an awesome tiffin to our kids, both are tedious sometimes. But with readily available ingredients at home, nothing is difficult at all. With this Brown bread dahi vada recipe, you can serve a chatpata snack to your guest and ensure an empty tiffin box upon your kid’s return from school. We can bake our own breads with my recipe or just can buy 2 – 3 loaves of breads for a week and preserve it at our refrigerator easily and use it when needed.

Total time required for Brown bread dahi vada recipe for 3 people: 20 minutes

Ingredients for Brown bread dahi vada recipe ( makes 11 – 12 vadas ):

  1.  4 – 5 slices of bread (better to use brown breads for health purpose)
  2. 2 medium sized potatoes
  3. 2 tsp of powdered cumin or jeera powder
  4. 2 tsp of powdered dhaniya or coriander powder
  5. 1 tsp of red chilly powder
  6. Salt to taste
  7. Dahi – 2 cups
  8. Refined oil ( low absorb oil preferable )
  9. 1 chopped off onion

Please note : For quicker preparation, just use pav bhaji masala available in the market instead of roasting the spices

Brown bread dahi vada recipe – The method:

  1. Boil potatoes with jackets in a pressure cooker till they turn soft and mash-able. After the potatoes are boiled, peel off the jacket and mash with a masher or hand
  2. Dry roast cumin, coriander and chilly powder  and keep aside
  3. Now, in a mixing bowl, add the mashed potatoes, brown bread pieces ( break the bread slices into several pieces with your hand ), onions and 1/3 of the roasted masalas. Mash everything nicely with hand or a masher
  4. Make balls or vadas out of the mixture prepared ( Better if made flattened surface vadas )
  5. Brush oil over a non-stick pan and heat it
  6. Add the bread balls or vadas on to the pan and sear. Fry till each sides are golden brown. Switch off the flame
  7. Now, in another mixing bowl, add the roasted masala or spices ( another 1/3 rd ), curd and beat the mixture well. You may add a little sugar if you want a sweeter taste. I prefer not to add extra sugar and keep the sour taste of the curd or dahi
  8. Now, its time to plate the Brown bread dahi vada. Just take a plate, keep 3 – 4 vadas on the middle of the plate. Spread the beaten curd mixture on top of the vadas. Sprinkle the left over masala on top of the bread vadas and SERVE! 🙂

Your wonderful Brown bread dahi vadas are ready.
