Chilli fish with bhetki or barramundi

I have been yearning for long to make chilli fish at home with bhetki or barramundi fish. But every time I go to the market, either I have to return with no bhetki at all or some whole bhetki cut into pieces. But mostly with no fillets which I of course need to make Chilli fish with bhetki or barramundi. But God answered my prayers and yes I got a bhetki fillet finally and I am so happy! And now I am sharing here how I made those Chilli fish with bhetki or barramundi

Time required to make Chilli fish with bhetki or barramundi: 45 minutes

Ingredients for Chilli fish with bhetki or barramundi:

  • Bhetki fillet cut into 16 – 17 pieces – 200 – 300gms
  • 1 onion cut into cubes
  • 4 – 5 green chillies – slitted
  • 1 capsicum – cut into cubes
  • 1 inch ginger – grated
  • 9 – 10 cloves of garlic – sliced
  • 2 – 3 tbsp cornflour
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato puree
  • Refined oil
  • Salt
  • Chilli powder
  • Pinch of baking soda
  • 5 spring onions – chopped into slices

Chilli fish with bhetki or barramundi recipe:

  • In a mixing bowl, add cornflour, chilli powder, salt, baking powder and a little water. Dip fish pieces into the mixture. Coat cornflour mixture well around the fish pieces
  • Now heat oil in a wok for deep frying of fish. Put fishes in batches inside the wok and fry till golden brown. Keep them aside
  • Now, in the same oil, add ginger, garlic and fry till they turn reddish brown
  • Add green chillies, onions and fry till onions are golden brown
  • Add capsicum, spring onion and saute for a minute
  • Then add soy sauce and stir
  • Add the left over cornflour mixture, tomato puree into the wok along with about 2 – 3 cups of water. Let it simmer and come to boil
  • Add fish pieces now and adjust salt to taste
  • Cook till the desired consistency of the gravy is achieved

Serve the dish with fried rice, pulao or parantha!
