DIY Torchlight Simple Circuit

Last updated: October 28th, 2022

What is an LED?

A light-emitting diode (LED) is a semiconductor that sends light through a current of electricity. Light is created by combining in the semiconductor material particles that transport current. LEDs are described as solid-state devices since light is produced inside the solid semiconductor material.

This lighting technology, which involves organic LEDs, varies from other sources that use hot filaments or gas discharge. Here we have mentioned a basic LED torch circuit to illuminate 3 white LEDs from a 6-volt supply to keep your battery running. A compact double-voltage circuit with only a handful of components is integrated into this process. So you won’t face problems while cloning it.

How does it work?

You can see that the driving of three White LEDs from a 6-volt source with 20 mA current is achieved by a single IC 4049 and a few other passive components. The current setup guarantees a decent battery life and nearly 100 percent performance. Gates N1 and N2, together with gates R1 and C1, are connected to an oscillator-determined frequency of rates R1 and C1.

The other gates are wired; their inputs are connected from the oscillator with the frequency source.

How can you make your DIY torchlight at home?

The following are the materials required to make an LED Torchlight:

  • LED light with a high intensity
  • Tiny on/off turn
  • 9-volt battery
  • Scissor
  • Electrical Tape
  • Wires
  • 270-ohm resistor

Step 1

Attach a wire to the first end of the switch

In any electric shop, you will get a tiny on/off switch. Be sure the wire is tightly attached and not coming out very easily. Create two tiny holes in Pringles (or any tube) tube side attentively. This is to pass through the split pins and create the turn.

Be sure you have a wire connected at each end of your battery holder to the inner bottom or side of the Pringles pipe. Use the double face tape to connect them. Press into one hole and secure the end of one wire from the battery keeper with the help of a dividend pin.

Step 2

Connect an LED to another switch end

A 2-legged LED normally has a positive, short, and negative terminal for the longer lead. As in your situation, it might be different. Thus, before binding, you must verify the terminal with a battery and a resistor. Don’t use a resistor [270 ohm] to connect the two LED terminals to the battery, as it might burn your finger.

Step 3

Connect the resistor to the free end

Keep in mind to always add a luminance resistor. The resistor decreases battery flow, which keeps it glowing for long periods of time.

Step 4

Attach the cable to the negative battery terminal

Assemble the LED by connecting its positive terminal to the positive terminal of the battery and its negative terminal to the negative terminal of the battery.

Step 5

Attach the wire from the LED long leg to the battery terminal.

Check the LED and battery connectivity. Make sure the transition between battery and Lead is perfect. Otherwise, it will create problems in the current flow, which might decrease the glow.

Step 6:

Secure electrical tape attachment.

Be sure that the link between cable, resistor, LED, switch, and the battery is safe and everything is insulated. This will keep you from accidental shock, that’s why it is very important.

Step 7:

Now the torch is ready to be used.

Now you have to check whether the bulb is glowing or not. If you are not sure, then you can solder the connection to make it more secure. You can even install a buzzer to hear what’s going on instead of an LED to make things more fun!

Conclusion

It is really simple to build this LED torch circuit, simply obtain all components and solder them using the given steps. Then you just have to connect the battery and check how it’s working. To maximize the light output, you can use suitable reflectors.

A fully charged battery pack can last for a long, so if you put some effort, then you might make a long-lasting LED circuit. Hope this article will solve some of your doubts.
