Types of Printer for Home Use in India

Last updated: October 21st, 2022

The printers have become a part of our daily life. You need them to print important documents, you can print photos from them and your children need them for school assignments as well. It is a basic need at every home. Before you purchase a printer for home use, you must know what are the types of printers available in the market and this can help you in making the right choice. To help you, we have listed the three types of printers available and we have listed them in order of most preferred to least preferred. Let us now have a look at these.

3 Types of Printer for Home Use in India

#1 Inkjet Printers – Best for Light Use

The first one in our list is Inkjet printers. They are the most popular ones and they can be used to print colour as well as black/white documents. These are quick and they can support multiple types of papers. Today, you will find inkjet which can easily print on photo paper.

There are models which can support A3 size of paper as well. It must be noted that they are not the cheapest ones to run because of the cost of ink. Most of the inkjet printers that you will find these days come with all in one functionality. This means that you can use the printer to scan and photocopy the documents as well.

There are certain variations available in inkjet printers. This includes a printer with an ink tank. The printers with ink tank have four tanks for each colour ink and they are much cheaper to refill. You can simply replace the colour that is empty.

In addition to what all has been mentioned above, you can also get an Inkjet printer with wireless capabilities. So, it is certainly a good idea to purchase inkjet for home as you would occasionally need colour printouts as well.

#2 Laser Printer For Heavy Use

Laser printers are next on our list and they are a little expensive initially. The technology used is slightly expensive and that pushes up the cost of printers. In addition to this, you must know that laser printers for home are the cheapest to operate because of the cost of ink.

Additionally, these laser printers were earlier available only in black/white models but now you will find colour laser printers. The cost is going down but it is still a little expensive when compared to Inkjets. The quality of the colour inkjet may not be as good as what you get with Inkjets when it comes to photos.

Another advantage of laser printers is that they are very fast. There is a huge difference between the speed of the inkjet printers and the laser printers. Yes, we are talking about pages per minute. Additionally, laser printers are also available in different variations.

You can easily find them all in one model and the wireless models. One piece of advice here is to check if the printer has a separate colour toner tank as this would help you in bringing down the cost of refills. Ideally, we would not recommend a laser printer for home at this stage if you do not need a lot of prints on a daily basis. A laser printer can be an ideal choice for small offices.

#3 Dye Sublimation Printers

You might have not heard of Dye Sublimation Printers as the inkjet printers have taken over their job but the fact is that these printers are still available for use. There was a time when Dye Sublimation Printers were the only option available to obtain the printout of the photos from a digital camera as they were the only machines that supported photo paper or glossy paper.

With time, this support is now available in inkjet and laser printers so Dye Sublimation Printers have been virtually replaced. These are the least preferred models available in the list as they do not offer much of versatility or utility to the user.

So, you would have noticed that it makes a lot of sense to purchase Inkjet Printer. You can also add on to the variations here. For example, if you have multiple family members then you can opt for a wireless inkjet printer. In addition to this, you can also opt for a printer with an ink tank.

The ink tank printers will be a little expensive in beginning but in the long run, they prove to be really cheap because of the low cost of printing. Even if you are opting for a laser printer, it would make sense to purchase the wireless models with all in one functionality. So, with this, we would conclude the article and we are sure that knowing the types of printers would help you with your purchase decision.
